BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Yvonne Nass
Parent Education Consultant
I have been a Parent Education Instructor since 1979.
My job is to instruct parents in the skills of uniting
the family as a group working towards cooperation. The
course offered is based on communicating and disciplining
with respect. I have taught parent training classes to
adults and adolescents including developing specialized
courses for parents of teens, stepparents, teenage parents,
foster parents, parents of “special needs” children,
adult children of alcoholics, divorced and separated
parents, working parents, parents of children birth to
three and incarcerated parents. I have also developed
workshops and training courses for teachers, nurses,
speech and hearing specialists, nutritionists, day care
providers, grandparents, and volunteers. My 60 second
parenting tips could be heard daily on a local radio
station.
My interest in this field began thirty-five years ago.
I was parenting three young children and not enjoying
the job. I was not comfortable with my parenting techniques,
but did not know what else to do. A friend invited me
to a parent study group where I realized I needed to
have more effective tools for the most important job
of my life. After attending several classes I began my
training as a study group leader with the Family Education
Center of DE, Inc. From there, I entered a Counselor
in Training Program taught by a professor from the University
of West Virginia School of Graduate Studies receiving
my certification as an Adlerian Family Counselor in 1970.
Since then, I have continued my education at the University
of Vermont, VT., Bowie State College, MD., Neumann College,
PA. and the University of Delaware, DE. In 1988 I earned
certification as a Delaware Level II Parent Educator.
I am a parent, stepparent, grandparent and great-grandparent.
